This short course is best suited as a foundational course for Psychology undergraduates as well as for any person who wishes to gain an understanding of how society and culture influences the human psyche. It is designed to share knowledge on the foundational research and topics that form social psychology. This will be a highly interactive program where discussions on current cultural and societal climate is encouraged. We learn by discussing real-life situations and how they connect with social psychology theories and research.
All reading material will be provided by The Wellness Center.
Students will also receive a free copy of the inaugural edition of Psychology Quarterly magazine.

Learn Social Psychology – how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by society. For psychology students, counselors, and anyone who loves to learn psychology.
Introduction to Social Psychology – History, Scientific method
Cognition – Bias, Schema, Memory, and Influence
The Self – Self-awareness, individualism / collectivism, identity and self-esteem
Attitudes – Beliefs, values, ideologies, intentions, and behavior
Persuasion – ELM and Heuristics
Attribution – Attributional styles, social representations, gossip, conspiracy theories, and culture
People in groups – Group structure, norms, and morality
Prejudice and discrimination – Racism, sexism, and stigma
Anti-social and Prosocial behavior – Aggression, altruism, and helping behaviors
Attraction – attraction and attachment, love, romance, social isolation, and ideals.
